Location, close to Ferry and Inner Harbor
Facility was a throw-back to the turn of the century....had to get a someone from maintenance to place a prop in the window to keep it open as works were long gone. No air conditioning but rather a small fan. Bathroom plumbing issues in sink, toilet and tub. No breakfast included because we booked through Booked.net rather than direct with the hotel.
Our stay was very comfortable and the hotel was quaint. In terms of value for money it was very good. Do not expect flash 5 star luxury, just comfortable old style accommodation.
Nice & quiet - best sleep I've had in a hotel
All the stairs
It is a nice romantic getaway hotel in downtown Victoria.
Some of the furniture ie the sofa in the living room is well worn and should be replaced with a newer furniture.
I had been to Victoria previously and the look of the hotel appealed to me. It was Avery convenient location.
It was a little awkward carrying bags up the stairs.
The different nature, the lovely room and certainly the comfortable bed. It was nice to have something different.
The sofa in the room was threadbare, there was no main light, the windows needed attention due to bad paintwork and they were not fluid to open, The wallpaper in the bathroom and in public areas was a little peeling, Generally it needed some attention to get the paint, woodwork, wallpaper etc to a point that it was not peeling and looks good.
The location is convenient being near the Port Angeles Ferry terminal. Other than that, I would not recommend this hotel.
This was a classic bait and switch. The Gatsby Mansion is part of a larger hotel group. Although I booked my stay for the Gatsby Mansion and the online photos were of a beautiful old building, when I arrived I was put into a standard hotel room in a back building that was called the Huntingdon Hotel. It was like a Motel 6 with a kitchenette. I never even saw the inside of the Gatsby Mansion. The room was not at all what I expected. The "king size" bed was not a king size at all. It was two regular twin beds pushed together with a king size sheet over it. If you know anything about king size beds, they use two extra long twins to create the foundation not regular size twins. Additionally, the bed was the absolute hardest bed I've ever slept on. It was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying here.
The room was nice and the bed comfy
no swimming pool, and no comfy chair in our room. had to go to the main hotel to get ice.
We loved the stay in such a beautiful historic environment. The location was quiet and perfect to access the town on foot. The staff were very pleasant friendly and efficient.
When we arrived It was confusing as to where the entrance was for checking in. Stairs only for accessing the room was a little difficult with luggage. Our first morning was a rude awakening of the maid using a very noisy vacuum cleaner on the landing outside our room even though we had hung the do not disturb notice on the door as we had been travelling the day before and needed to sleep in. We would not hesitate to stay at The Gatsby again
Location is great and staff is very friendly. The historic mansion is really interesting with a great porch on the second level. This is the second time we have stayed at the mansion and have no regrets.
They did not refil the coffe or give us clean cups when they turned down the room.
The building of the mansion is excellent in terms of the style of the period - the restaurant is very good.\\ BUT! The building is part of a complex involving the Huntingdon Hotel and the Mansion is used as a selling point in terms of it being 'boutique'. Our reservation resulted in us being pplaced in the 'Judge's House' - of similar age to the Gats Mansion but less grand in architectural terms - it was in fact rather run down - two electrical connections were faulty and potentially dangerous - the bathroom facilities were substandard and the general fittings were far from the period 'antiques' as conveyed by the advertisement. The complex has recently changed hands and there is litle doubt that the focus is on the Huntingdon rather than the 'old' buildings - in fact substantial parts of these old buildings remain empty. Overall, I believe that the Gats Mansion is a clasical confidence job to suck in those who appreciate period architecture but hope that the interior has been properly maintained. On top of all this, we found the reception staff in the Huntingdon most unhelpful - I would not recommend this to anyone.
See above for my total dissastisfaction.
Character, charm, not the usual hotel stay. Wish there were ghosts!
Shower in our room was non existant.
Felt uncomfortable staying alone in what appeared to be an empty building.
perfect location for victoria trip!
full of character and history a fine and elegant lady
could have had better towels,
